Meskwaki
My best images are often at the beginning or end of my photo session. When I arrived at the Meskwaki Native-American Pow Wow I was feeling a bit rushed and was overwhelmed with all the color and activity around me. I spent some time with the family our reporter planned to write about and I was getting ready to leave when I made this tight portrait. In our paper the next day an image of this young dancer was the main photo. We also used images capturing the activity of the event but this simple portrait had more strength than all of them.
